![]() Movie Maker 2009 supported both Windows Vista and Windows 7. Certain advanced features were also removed from the software, such as image stabilization and the ability to record voice-overs. In addition, many features were removed.Īlso, Movie Maker's interface was redesigned in the Windows Live version to use a ribbon toolbar similar to Office 2007 it also added features such as "Auto Movie" and the ability to export videos directly to DVDs and YouTube. This was effectively a completely new application, as it could not read projects created by earlier versions and did not support custom XML transitions written for the previous versions. After the development reset, the interface for the WPF-based Windows Movie Maker was retained in Windows Vista.Ī new version of the software, renamed Windows Live Movie Maker 2009, was released as a beta on September 17, 2008, and officially released as a standalone product through Windows Live Essentials suite on August 19, 2009. Ī Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) version of Windows Movie Maker was also included in some development builds of Vista (at the time codenamed "Longhorn"), but was removed in the development reset in August 2004. It can only be installed on Windows Vista and is only intended for use on computers where the hardware-accelerated version cannot run. This version is basically the same as Windows Movie Maker 2.1 and included all of the old effects and transitions, but it excludes the ability to capture video. Īs some older systems might not be able to run the new version of Windows Movie Maker, Microsoft also released an updated older version 2.6 for Windows Vista on Microsoft Download Centre. However, the Windows Vista version of Windows Movie Maker removed support for importing video from an analog video source such as an analog camcorder, VCR or from a webcam. The capture wizard also created DVR-MS type files from HDV tapes. The HD version in Premium and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista also added support for capturing from HDV camcorders. It included new effects and transitions, support for playback on the Xbox 360, and support for the DVR-MS file format that Windows Media Center records television in. The next version of Movie Maker was released as part of Windows Vista and – like most Windows components – reported version number, same as Windows Vista itself. The Movie Maker in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 had more transitions and support for DVD burning. Version 2.1, a minor update, is included in Windows XP Service Pack 2. Version 2.0 was released as a free update in November 2002, and added a number of new features. ![]() Version 1.1 was included in Windows XP a year later, and included support for creating DV AVI and WMV 8 files. The first release of Windows Movie Maker was included with Windows Me on September 14, 2000. Movie Maker was officially discontinued by Microsoft on January 10, 2017, and it is replaced by Video Editor (formerly Microsoft Story Remix) which is built in with Microsoft Photos on Windows 10, and Clipchamp on Windows 11, which Microsoft acquired in September 2021. It later became a part of the Windows Essentials software suite, and offered the ability to create and edit videos as well as to publish them on OneDrive, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, Windows Live Groups, and Flickr. It was first included in Windows Me on September 14, 2000, and in Windows XP on October 25, 2001. Windows Movie Maker (known as Windows Live Movie Maker for the 20 releases) is a discontinued video editing software program by Microsoft. ![]() com /en-us /help /18614 /windows-essentials ![]() Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 ![]() ![]() ![]() Reynolds’ modifications to the preamp circuitry, action and voicing produced a fat, bright, full-toned sound which was hailed by inventor Harold Rhodes as the best he had ever heard. A stellar example is Keyscape’s ‘LA Custom Rhodes’, a 1974 73-key Fender Rhodes Suitcase which epitomises the legendary ‘E’ sound perfected by LA keyboard tech Eddy Reynolds in the ’70s and ’80s. Happily for all concerned, Spectrasonics care about such things and, being based in Southern California (birthplace of the Rhodes), were well-placed to draw upon a wealth of local expertise when it came to locating and restoring vintage models. Consequently, some sampled versions display imperfections that would be unacceptable to an experienced Rhodes player. This is understandable given the instrument’s wide dynamic and sonic range, but there’s a more serious underlying issue: vintage electro-mechanical keyboards need regular servicing, and the expertise to reach inside the piano and correct clunky, buzzy, over-quiet, thin-sounding or out-of-tune notes is something they don’t teach on music tech courses. Keyboardists who have played the real thing (such as myself) often say that sampled emulations don’t quite nail the Fender Rhodes sound. As well as making Omnisphere’s numerous effects and sound-design features available for Keyscape instruments, this facilitates creative layering of patches from the two libraries. ![]() ![]() It’s important to note that while 32-bit hosts aren’t supported for Keyscape, its full panoply of sounds and patches can be loaded into Omnisphere 2, which will operate in a 32-bit host. Keyscape is formatted exclusively for Spectrasonics’ STEAM sound engine, which runs as a plug-in on Mac and Windows systems in all the major DAWs and 64-bit plug-in hosts that support VST/AU/AAX platforms. The Lite version is not sold separately, and since many patches reference multiple parts of the library, you can’t install your own personal selection of instruments. If you wish, you can run the full version in your studio DAW and use the Lite install on a laptop at gigs. You can install either the full 77GB collection or an optional 30GB ‘Lite’ menu of essential instruments designed for live performance. Lossless audio compression reduces the large sample database (over 200GB in size) to a more manageable 77GB on your hard drive. There are no organs or analogue synths in this collection, nor are there any licks or phrases: the focus is squarely on multisampled electro-mechanical and acoustic instruments, augmented by a handful of digital ’80s classics such as the ubiquitous and unashamedly synthetic ‘FM Rhodes’ sound. An intriguing selection of hitherto-unsampled historical rarities is also included, along with a leading make of 20th-century concert grand piano. ![]() Spectrasonics’ Keyscape comprises no fewer than 36 keyboard models, ranging from iconic, sought-after ’70s instruments to contemporary retro-styled keyboards. It also explains the motivation behind the company’s latest offering, which looks set to create a new standard for vintage keyboard collections. This hands-on studio experience, coupled with a lifelong love affair with keyboards, helps account for Spectrasonics’ instruments being so playable and practical. While technical innovation and sonic exploration have been a company hallmark from the start, Persing’s background as a session player and producer adds an important dimension to the story. Having successfully navigated the format upheavals of the hardware sampler era, Spectrasonics scored with their acclaimed Stylus, Trilogy and Atmosphere virtual instruments before hitting the jackpot with Trilian and the multi-award-winning Omnisphere synth, voted SOS readers’ Best Software Instrument in 2014, 20. Based in Burbank, California, the company has been outputting state-of-the-art products since 1994, when co-founder Eric Persing released the ground-breaking Bass Legends library (chunks of which live on under the hood of certain keyboard workstations). There’s something reassuringly solid about Spectrasonics. Spectrasonics’ major keyboard collection combines classic vintage instruments with a gallery of unique rarities. ![]() ![]() ![]() He is the only one of the cast to acknowledge his presence in the show. ![]() The most accessible and highest profile actor of the show to date is the man who plays Danny's Dad, known as Sal Lizard. Instead, children gain value from visual schedules. In fact, according to the author, Lilian Katz, the ability to understand how many days there are from now until a future event will not take place until a child is between the ages of 7 and 10. Be careful not to mistaken this with rote memorization. Young children can understand the concepts of before and after, but not the days of the week. There is a really great article written about this “calendar hot topic” from the National Association for the Education of Young Children called Calendar Time for Young Children: Good Intentions Gone Awry.Īccording to this article, it all comes down to the fact that calendar time for preschoolers and even kindergarteners is not meaningful. I’m not the only one questioning this practice though. So why was I dragging these concepts through circle time when they would just “click” one day? Calendar Time: Good Intentions Gone Awry by Lilian Katz I would support them where they are at and keep encouraging their development until the time was right for them. I would never try to have a five-month-old who is just sitting up try to learn to walk. Since I don’t think that learning should feel like pulling teeth, I took a step back and gave it some extra perspective. Right? We were all in the same room I thought!?!” Learning is a joyful experience where we come alongside a child’s interests and support them in that.īut there were times when I felt like calendar was full of lots of blank stares, long, silent pauses, and me saying to myself, “We just said this yesterday. I would rather teach a child when they are ready or in a way that is exciting for them. To me it meant that I was just wasting a lot of my time and their time. This certainly does not mean that engaging in calendar activities is wrong or that it is damaging children. We are talking years for kiddos who go less than Monday through Friday. This means that it would take roughly a year and a half of doing calendar time for the concept to sink in.Īnd that is if they go to school five days a week and the teacher does it every single day. ![]() I am going to say it is 350 times (and I know that’s the ballpark). She told us that a four-year-old would have to do calendar hundreds of times (I am really wishing I had written down the exact number now) before they understood it. One of my most dearly revered professors had me on the edge of my seat one class when she was talking about calendar time. I honestly felt completely conflicted within myself, feeling uncertain and confused with the two polar opposite extremes.īut then I had a professor who gave me some perspective that I’ll never forget. Let’s just say no one dared ask for one in their classroom. Well, maybe they would have been a little more understanding. If you were caught with a calendar, you would be beheaded by lunch… ![]() On the opposite spectrum, I worked for an organization where calendar time was taboo. Write out the date in full, with the year.I have worked at five different schools in my 17 years of working in ECE, and calendar looks different depending on what each school’s philosophy is.Īt a couple of the preschools I have been in, as well as schools that I observed while getting my degree, they did this every day. One of the activities that kept popping up on my radar is calendar time. Learning needs to be meaningful, and that means that I need to be constantly assessing my own approaches and methods. I have my preschoolers for a short time before they head off to kindergarten, and I want to make sure that I am making the most of each minute I have with them. I try to live each day with the philosophy “work smarter, not harder.” In the same way, I try to teach according to the same motto. But is calendar time truly necessary? In my own classroom, calendar time was a struggle for years until I began to dig deeper and research it. Calendar time is a daily part of many preschool programs and classrooms. ![]() ![]() ![]() To learn more about Mason and her book, check out this edition of Life & Living with Joanna Gagis.įor more stories that impact New Jersey residents, click over to our Hot Topics in NJ series.
